Zero Tolerance Policy for Ragging:

To address and curb the menace of ragging, the University Grants Commission has enacted the ‘UGC Regulation on Curbing the Menace of Ragging in Higher Educational Institutions, 2009’. In accordance with this regulation, Gurunanak Vidyak Society’s Law College, follows the zero tolerance policy in regard to the Anti-Ragging and has constituted an Anti-Ragging committee.

Ragging of any kind, no matter how slight, will not be tolerated. Any ragger, whether a male or a female, a student or non- student, will be dealt with harshly.

Anti – Ragging Policy:

If you are caught ragging, the Anti-Ragging Committee can punish you with ( Section 9.1, the UGC Regulations On Curbing The Menace Of Ragging In Higher Educational Institutions, 2009.):

Suspension from attending classes and academic privileges.
Withholding/withdrawing scholarship/fellowship and other benefits.
Debarring you from appearing in any test/examination.
Withholding results.
Debarring you from representing the college in any regional, national or international meet, tournament, youth festival, etc.
Suspension/expulsion from the hostel.
Cancellation of admission.
Rustication from the college for a period ranging from one to four semesters.

Punishments for Ragging:

This is to bring to your notice all provisions of the IPC (Indian Penal Code) which can be used by anyone who is being ragged to register an FIR (First Information Report) in the police station under whose jurisdiction area the crime has taken place. These sections are:

339. Wrongful restraint
340. Wrongful confinement
341. Punishment for wrongful restraint

294. Obscene acts and songs
506. Punishment for criminal intimidation In cases of extreme ragging that includes violence:
323. Punishment for voluntarily causing hurt
324. Voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapons or means
325. Punishment for voluntarily causing grievous hurt
326. Voluntarily causing grievous hurt by dangerous weapons or means In case a ragging victim has lost his/her life:
304. Punishment for culpable homicide not amounting to murder
